Procedures
The body piercing procedure involves using a hollow medical needle. Care should be taken that the area you chose for piercing must be cleaned with a germicidal soap, which kills disease-causing bacteria and micro organisms. With the help of the body piercing needle, a hole is made in the part of the body to be pierced.

Keeping the needle in its place, the piece of body piercing jewellery is inserted through the opening, following the needle. The needle just cuts a slit, which is C shaped and the hole is held open in the shape of the cross section of the needle. The needle can be the same measure as the initial jewellery or larger, depending on the place to be pierced.

After the completion of the piercing procedures, a small piece of jewellery will be inserted into the opening. The selection of the jewellery will be according to the part of the body to be pierced.

Choosing a piercer
The most important thing while going for body piercing is to choose a professional piercer to ensure a safe and trouble-free body piercing experience.

Care to be taken after body piercing:

  • Avoid touching the piercing or the area around it until it has healed. The reason being that your hands accumulate a lot of dirt and these can cause the healing area to get infected.
  • It is recommended to take Vitamin C and Zinc which helps to promote healing.
  • Apply a very mild, saline soak to the body piercing. This will help to heal and avoid infection by removing bacteria from the area.
  • Wash the pierced region with a mild liquid soap followed by rinsing. Ask your piercer for specific products available. Do not wash more than once or twice a day.
  • Avoid hydrogen peroxide or alcohol in this area, as these products are too harsh and will irritate your skin.
  • Also, keep away the antibiotic creams, gels and ointments from pierced areas. They block dirt and germs and obstruct oxygen supply to the wound.
  • There are risks involved in body piercing done with the cosmetic procedure. But if the body piercing is done with a professional piercer and the right procedures, then the risks can be minimized.
  • Avoid the consumption of caffeine and alcohol as they can slow the healing process.
  • Avoid using cosmetics, lotions and other kinds of beauty products around your body piercing.
  • Avoid too much exposure to sun, tanning beds, tanning oils and lotions as they can irritate the piercing.
