Dark Underarms
Dark underarms are a very common problem. It is embarrassing for most of the women who like to wear sleeveless clothing. It is naturally not possible if you have dark underarms.
Dark underarms are a matter of pigmentation. There is various causes of dark underarms. We discuss few of them.
Causes of dark underarms
- Dark underarms are caused due to shaving. It is friction, which usually causes more keratinization to the surface of the skin, depending on the individual, which can lead to darkening. Thus, it is suggested to do waxing and stick to it for a while as opposed to expecting immediate results within a couple of times. Waxing eliminates hair from the roots, so no hair is left under the skin. Due to this, the shadow on your underarms that sometimes remains after shaving hair is not usually present after waxing. In addition to removing hair from the roots, waxing also removes dead skin. However, over a period, with regular waxing, your underarms will remain free of hair for longer and after some years, you will forget that you ever had a problem of dark underarms.
- Dark underarms can also be caused by regular use of deodorants or antiperspirants. So avoid using deodorants when you are at home and apply it only when there is a need. Instead of applying your deodorant when stepping out in the morning, apply it in the afternoon, when you need to do so. If you are wearing sleeveless however, apply an antiperspirant, and wash if off when you reach home. Consider changing your deodorant brand and kind. Look out for the deodorants for sensitive skin.
- Using hair removal creams is another cause of dark underarms, as the regular use of these creams will darken the region. As well, the chemicals often darken and burn the skin with prolonged use. Hair removal creams contain harsh chemicals. Therefore, it is recommended to use the hair removal creams occasionally, do not use them frequently.
- If your underarm region is inflamed, you may have a bacterial infection and may need to apply a light medicated cream or anti-fungal powder
- Certain skin types are simply prone to discoloration in a place where friction is frequent and that includes the armpits.
- Consider seeing a dermatologist. There are products available in the market that are aimed at repressing pigment production in your skin. A dermatologist is the best person to determine and prescribe a good treatment for dark underarms.
However you can also try some of the home remedies to get rid of dark underarms.
Home remedies for dark underarms
- Take a tablespoon each of limejuice and cucumber juice. Add one pinch of turmeric in it. Apply it to the underarms and leave it for 20 minutes. Later wash it off with water. This is effective home remedy for dark underarms.
- Add one tablespoon of sandalwood powder, a pinch of turmeric powder, few drops of limejuice and milk in one tablespoon of gram flour. Apply this paste to the underarms and wash it after 20 minutes. This remedy helps to lighten the dark underarms.
