Steam Baths

Steam baths are relaxing and stress relieving. Steam baths have been used for centuries, and are a common feature of gyms, health spas and clubs. Today, steam baths are considered as an integral method for purifying and detoxifying the skin and body. There are numerous benefits of steam baths, of which few are discussed below.

Steam bath health benefits:

  • Pain Relief Benefits : Steam bath is beneficial for muscular pain. Taking a steam bath after a workout is an excellent method which helps to heal the tissue and muscles. Heat allows the blood vessels to enlarge which enhances the blood circulation. This helps in two ways such as pain reduction and improving the healing speed.

  • Immunity : Steam baths helps to enhance your immune system. Due to steam, the body temperature rises high, which inhibits most bacteria and viruses in the body and motivates the immune system to mobilize its own forces.

  • Relaxation : Good sleep is the best way to heal the body. Due to stress we suffer from diseases such as high blood pressure and hypertension. A steam bath is an excellent method which helps to relieve the daily stresses.

  • Toxins : Steam bath is one of the simplest and most comfortable way to get rid of accumulated toxins. Perspiration helps to remove waste products and accumulated toxins and a steam bath is a powerful perspiration inducer. Taking a steam bath after a massage helps to eliminate those toxins that have been dislodged by the massage.

  • Skin benefits : Sweat is excellent for healthy skin. Sweating cleans the skin better than soap and water, since it unlocks the pores and eliminates dead skin cells.

  • Circulation : Steam bath enhances blood circulation and cardiovascular activities. It helps to increase the pulse rate without increasing the blood pressure. Due to heat, the blood vessels widen and can accommodate the increased blood flow.

How to take a steam bath

  • Ensure that you drink at least one or two glasses of water before entering a steam bath, because the process may dehydrate you.

  • Take a shower before going to the steam bath room.

  • Take the steam for not more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time, even if it may feel relaxing.

  • After the steam bath, cool down first in room temperature and then take a warm or cold shower.

  • Cool down first by taking a warm shower and then a cool shower, to avoid shocking your body. Ensure that your entire body has cooled down before you try another session in the steam room or switch to the pool, hot tub or sauna. If you are still overheated, it could affect your circulation. Never go for more than three sessions in a row, because you do not want to overburden your body.
