There are various factors such improper feeding habits, environmental conditions, unsuitable baby products such as soap, cream, oil, etc. This problem of baby skin can be treated well using appropriate methods.

Causes of Dry Skin in Babies:

The most common factor of drying out the baby's skin is exposure to the excessive cold and too hot temperatures. The baby lotions or soaps bought without doctor's suggestion can also act unsuitable for their soft sensitive skin types. Keeping your baby's skin in contact with water for long can also create harm to the skin, making it rough and dry.

Treating Dry Skin in Babies:

  • To protect your baby's skin from drying, a humidifier needs to be placed in a room where the baby sleeps. Dry air causes the dryness of skin; therefore, moisture in the air should be maintained where baby spends most of the time every day. The temperature of the room of your baby should not be kept too hot or too cold.
  • The babies should be provided bath with warm water every day or after every two to three days, depending on their age and requirement. This bath should not exceed 10 minutes. During the time of bath, use the baby soap that is soft and does not make any harm to the baby skin. Before bath, you can massage their bodies with baby oil or you can also put a few drops of this oil to their bathing water.
  • After bath, the body of your baby should be dried thoroughly using a soft towel or a cotton cloth. You should not rub their sensitive bodies. After drying off your baby, it is advisable to apply a baby lotion on their skin. This lotion should be free of perfumes and chemicals. You can also use Vaseline or A and D ointment for the same purpose. Aloe Vera gel can be an excellent choice for soft baby skin, but it has to be authentic or homemade.
  • It is necessary to wash the clothes of your baby separately. Make a use of soft cloths for your baby instead of those made of harsh fabrics like nylon or wool. Cotton is a best fabric for making baby clothes.
  • The dresses of babies should be loose, not tight. The baby's diaper has to be changed immediately whenever required. If the wet clothes or diapers are kept for long, they can severely harm your baby's skin and lead it to dryness.
  • While taking your babies outside, cover them with clothes and avoid taking them to the extreme cold and extreme hot temperatures.
  • Along with all these things, one of the essential factors is appropriate food. Make sure that, you provide your baby with food that is best recommended by the doctor.

Baby skin is more sensitive to the diseases or allergies than that of grown up's. Above provided are some methods to keep your baby's skin smooth and prevent it from becoming dry.
