Dry Skin during Pregnancy

Introduction:

The problem of dry itchy skin is very usual during pregnancy. Dry skin during pregnancy is a common problem that can be handled using proper caring tips. In this stage, the level of body fluids and blood reduces and skin tends to lose moisture. These fluids are used for the necessary growth of body of pregnant women. The loss of these fluids from the body is naturally compensated by the moisture in body.

Causes:

The most common and natural cause of dry skin among pregnant women is the reduction of blood and body fluids. Another reason is drinking less amount of water during this time. In this period, the body undergoes fast hormonal changes. These changes harm the skin. The natural oils are removed from the skin, which results in making the skin dry and itchy. The skin produces acne, dark patches and stretch marks on it during this period.

Treating dry skin during pregnancy:

  • There are various home remedies that can be used to treat this problem. The most important treatment is making a pregnant woman drink as much water as she can. It is recommended that a woman should increase the intake of water than regular during pregnancy. The additional amount of water provides the necessary moisture to the body that is depleted during pregnancy.
  • The other important factor is using the proper body lotions or oils to massage their bodies. A pregnant woman needs a regular body massage at least twice a day. It is beneficial to massage the body of a pregnant woman with good body care oil before bath. Coconut oil or olive oil is excellent to be used for this purpose.
  • After bath, effective moisturizing lotions or creams are good to be applied on skin. Skin moisturizing after bath is efficient because when the skin is little damp, it absorbs moisture well.
  • The strong soaps containing high chemical content should be avoided during pregnancy as they show adverse effects on the skin. The mild soaps can be used. There are various types of liquid body wash those prove better than the soaps.
  • The temperature of room should not be kept too high or too less where the pregnant lady spends most of the time.
  • A pregnant woman should avoid exposing the skin to extreme outside temperatures. The extreme colds make the skin of pregnant women dry out very fast same as the case with all. The skin should also be protected from extremely cold water. While taking bath, it is recommended to use warm water as it keeps the blood circulation proper and prevents the skin from drying.
  • A diet of a pregnant woman should be kept appropriate to provide the body with essential nutrients. To prevent the skin from drying, it is necessary to include juicy fruits and vegetables in the regular diet. A pregnant woman should essentially avoid the intake of alcohol to protect the skin problems.

A problem of dry skin is highly observed among pregnant women. It can be kept under control using the above mentioned ideas.
