Dry Skin on Heels

Introduction:

Dry skin on heels is a very common problem for most of us. Heels on feet are seen more attacked with the problem of dry skin as compared to other body parts. This problem makes us suffer a lot in winter due to the cracking of skin on heels. When the skin becomes excessively dry, it develops cracks on the heels. The cracked skin on heels is highly painful and upsetting. If not treated in the early stages, the skin on heels worsens and becomes difficult to cure. Sometimes the skin on heels becomes so dry and cracked that, it may start bleeding.

Causes of heels dry skin:

Using shoes and sandals with open back or going barefoot is one of the common causes of such skin. It allows the heels to come in great contact with dry cold air, sand and dust. Washing the heels more than required number of times daily, can also cause them to dry out. The intake of alcohol in winter is also harmful for skin health and causes drying of skin. The use of low quality skin care products harms the skin on heels rather treating it. The regular diet also plays a vital role in keeping the health of skin.

Treatments to cure dry skin on heels:

  • To prevent the drying of skin on heels, it is essential to wear shoes or slippers while going out. It is recommended to wear the slippers whole day especially during winter.
  • It is beneficial to drink enough water daily to help the skin maintain moisture. One needs to eat green leafy vegetables and watery fruits to keep the desired water level in the body.
  • While choosing the shoes and slippers, see to it that the material used for them is soft that will not produce skin itching. One who suffers a lot with the problem of dry skin should always wear clean soft socks, mainly during winter.
  • It is recommended to soak your heels in warm water for 10-15 minutes and apply good dry skin moisturizer on it before sleeping. Various effective lotions are available in the market to be applied on heels after bath. One should take care not to allow heels on the feet to be exposed to dust after the lotion is applied on them.
  • In winter, it is advisable not to wash the heels on feet frequently and for longer periods. Warm water is always preferable to cold water.
  • If the skin on heels is too dry, you can remove the dead skin cells using a soft skin brush. After brushing the skin to remove dry skin layer, you should apply an effective dry skin cream on the heels.
  • The excessive use of dry skin lotions should be avoided. If your skin is too sensitive, you should consult a good dermatologist before purchasing the lotion.

The heels on feet suffer badly with dry skin, but people usually ignore this problem. If the dry skin on heels is not treated in the early stages, it goes extremely worse in condition. Therefore, one should provide proper treatment to heal this skin.
