Dry Skin Causes and Treatments
This type of skin lacks moisture-retaining ability. It has the parched appearance. This type of skin feels uncomfortable and tight after washing. To provide moisture to the skin, a skin cream or a moisturizer needs to be applied. Cracking and chapping are the signs of dehydrated and extremely dry skin. Air conditioning, extreme temperatures and wind aggravate dryness of the skin. All these things cause the skin to chap, feel tight and flake. Dry skin looks dull mainly around the eyes and on the cheeks.
Dry Skin Causes:
- The dry and cold weather of winter makes the skin dry and scaly. Lack of humidity outdoors also leads to the drying of skin
- The problem of dry skin may occur because of the genetic characters.
- One more reason behind such type of skin is poor diet and nutritional deficiencies. The deficiencies especially of vitamins A and B contribute in making the skin dry.
- Some improper practices are also responsible for such skin type. These practices include exposing skin to the extreme environmental conditions, bathing in hot water for long time, using the harsh skin soaps, swimming in the highly chlorinated water and using harsh chemical cosmetics.
- As one grows old, the moisture retaining capacity of his/her skin reduces. The extreme outside conditions harm the older skin more as compared to the younger one.
- Some disease like diabetes, hypothyroidism, psoriasis and eczema also lead to the dryness of skin.
- This type of skin can also be the result of medications such as antihistamines, antispasmodics and diuretics.
