Skin Lightening Treatments
Skin lightening at home is a cheap and safe way to get effective results. Home remedies are very convenient and easily available. Skin lightening does not mean to lighten the skin, infact it involves the process of lightening or bleaching dark or hyper-pigmented areas. These homemade remedies are efficient for small areas, but the best skin lightening treatments are only available with an expensive visit to a doctor.
However, instead of going for expensive skin lightening treatment, it is preferable to follow the homemade skin lightening treatments.
Homemade Skin lightening treatments:
Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent. It is extensively used for whitening the teeth, whitening the nails, removing age spots, lightening the skin. Skin bleaches include hydrogen peroxide, which can harm your skin if used without proper care and precautions. However, the hydrogen peroxide available in drugstores is a low concentration, generally 3 percent to 3.5 percent. This percentage is harmless for internal and external use with the body. Hydrogen peroxide is stored in dark bottles as it loses it potency as soon as light hits it. Take small amount of hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball. Apply on all areas of the skin you want to lighten. You can apply it few times every day.
Buttermilk
Buttermilk contains high fat content and lactic acid thus it is often treated as a soothing cleanser. Buttermilk is also used as folk remedy for lightening the skin. The lactic acid exfoliates the skin by eliminating dead skin, dirt and excess oil. Once the top layer is eliminated, the skin renews itself. The new skin appears lighter in skin tone. Apply buttermilk with the help of a cotton ball. Allow it to stay for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off with warm water.
Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is an ingredient present in many skin lotions these days, including those made for skin bleaching. However, it is recommended to purchase glycolic acid individually from a beauty store. Glycolic acid can be used as a chemical peel. It is a fruit acid so it is a natural product. Purchase the lower concentration of the acid such as 15- 35 percent if you are new to chemical peels. Follow the directions very carefully. Put the glycolic acid to the pigmented areas and leave on for just one minute. Followed by next application, you can leave the acid on for two minutes. As your skin gets used to the acid, you can amplify the amount of time the acid stays on the skin. After the peel, wash off with cleanser and warm water. After a treatment of few chemical peels, you should see a noticeable improvement in your skin tone. This is also a very effective skin lightening treatment.
