Guidelines to Renew Your Makeup Kits
Following are the best tricks for renewing your makeup kit.
- Dispose off all broken products.
- Throw away all products beyond their use-by date.
- Verify the expiry date on each product. Make up products once opened should be discarded according to their ingredients.
Follow these guidelines:
- Use mascara for about three-four months after opening.
- All texture products in powder form such as shadow, matt powders and foundation will last about two years.
- Foundation in cream form, lasts for about a year and a half.
- Lipsticks last for about two years.
- Lip-gloss will last for about two years. Observe when the color or texture changes; it is possible that if you have exposed the lip-gloss to temperature, then the color will change.
- Check whether the packed product has a symbol and a number beside it. The number tells you the number of months for which the product will last in a perfect state once opened. It is also necessary to confirm the date when you buy. Products, which last over 36 months, will not have this symbol.
- Face creams and cleansers have different lives depending on their ingredients. They can last from 3 to 12 or 24 months.
- Clean all your products with a damp towel and dry them with a soft cloth. They will look as if they are new.
- Make sure to clean all your brushes:
- Natural hairbrushes : Clean the hairbrush with a mild shampoo having a neutral fragrance. Wash them in cold or lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water. Rinse once again until you are sure there is no soap remaining.
- Synthetic-hair brushes : Clean your synthetic-hair brushes with a grease-removing product such as washing-up liquid. Wash them in lukewarm water and make sure there is no soap left behind.
- TIP : Always keep your brushes to dry on a towel; never let them dry upright in a cup as in this case the water would enter the brush's handle and damage it besides which the hair will part.
- Purchase new sponges and powder puffs. They are very easy to get and you will feel as if you are trying out a whole range of products for the first
time.
- Rinse your toiletry bag in a washing machine if the material and shape allow it. Otherwise, clean it with a damp sponge and remove all leftover pencil
shavings, broken pencils, bits of make up etc.
If you can purchase yourself a new toiletry bag with separate compartments to keep your entire make up products in order. This will help the products to last longer.
Purchase a small transparent toiletry bags to store your cotton wool, sponges and powder puffs keeping things more hygienic.
