Dry Skin Products
The skin of a baby is far more delicate and sensitive than that of an adult. It, therefore, becomes essential to take extra care of a baby's skin. A baby's skin does not produce enough melanin to protect them from sunburn and all the other problems associated with sun exposure, which includes, freckles and premature aging. Their skin is so delicate that it develops rashes even if the texture of their clothes is rough or very tight. A very common example is the development of rashes when using nappy. Baby skin care products are, therefore, produced considering the delicate and sensitive skin of babies.
Here's how you can take care of your baby's skin:
1. Oil Massage: An oil massage is very essential to keep your baby's skin healthy. It moisturizes the skin and keeps it soft. It also helps to maintain healthy bones. We have a wide variety of baby oil, in the market. Generally, oils containing vitamin E are very nourishing. The following precautions needs to be taken before giving an oil massage to a baby:
- Long nails can hurt the baby, and therefore should be avoided
- Do not wear bracelets, rings or any ornaments that might hurt the baby
2. Regular baths: Regular bath is essential to keep the baby clean, neat and healthy. A mild baby soap needs to be used during a bath. To dry the baby, gently tap dry his/ her body with a soft towel. Usually after a bath, the skin of a baby glows. Talcum powder needs to be used after a bath to keep the skin dry and free from moisture
3. Baby Creams: To moisturize your baby's skin, especially during winters and dry climate, baby creams or lotions needs to be applied to the face and other exposed areas to avoid cracks and roughness
4. Diaper rash cream: diapers and nappies of babies must be changed frequently. A diaper cream protects your baby against diaper rash, as it creates a shield against wetness.
5. Sun Screen: Babies, that are less than 6 months of age, must spend some time under the sun, preferably in the early morning hours. You should, therefore, ask your pediatrician to recommend a good sunscreen for the baby. Babies and children over 6 months of age should apply sunscreen that has an SPF of 15 or more. Apart from this, in order to protect the baby from the harsh sun, it is recommended that the baby wear a hat and sunglasses.
Baby skin care products are always mild and safe to use, but if the baby's skin is too sensitive, you might try something different or even homemade products for the baby. Now-a-days you will also find organic baby care products in the market. Make sure you do a small skin test, before using any product on the baby's delicate skin.
