The skin is the body's protective barrier against environment. We often take our skin for granted. Most people fail to realize that the skin needs daily care just like brushing one's teeth. If you do not take proper care of the skin then, it can become dry, flaky, cracked and inflamed. This can influence the skin to infection from wart viruses and bacteria. A daily skin care regimen should start as early as infancy and continue throughout one's life.

Everyone has natural oil covering his or her skin. Glands in the skin make this oil, called sebum. The skin becomes dry which can lead to cracking and flaking, as oil in the skin is removed by frequent use of drying agents, such as soap. Once cracking occurs, the skin is at a risk of inflammation and itching. In order to have truly healthy skin you must care for the skin on your entire body.

Most of the factors that may cause drying of the skin include harsh soaps, long hot baths or showers, and frequent bathing or showering. Most people overdo skin cleaning.

Following are tips to take care of body skin :

  • Mix six-teaspoon petroleum jelly, two-teaspoon glycerin and two-teaspoon lemon juice. If you have dry and flaky, arms and legs, apply this moisturizing lotion at least twice a week
  • Peel and grate a cucumber. Squeeze the juice of this, mix half-a-teaspoon glycerin and half-a-teaspoon rose water. Apply this mixture on sunburns and leave it for some time.
  • Melt paraffin wax; mix it with little mustard oil and apply on the cracked heels. Leave it overnight. After 10 or 15 days, your heels become smooth.
  • Massage your body with a mixture of coconut oil and any of your favourite scented oils like lavender or rosemary.
  • Use a mixture of glycerin and limejuice in equal proportion. Apply this mixture for rough palms,
  • For cracked heals, massage the foot with coconut oil and keep the foot in warm water for some time. Wipe the water off the feet and apply a mixture of hibiscus flower (10), Henna (one handful) and juice of half a lemon. When dry wash it off.
  • Remove scars on your hands and feet by rubbing them with lemon peel.
  • Prepare a paste of mint leaves and almonds. Mix it with warm water and apply all over your body. Leave it till it dries and rinse off with warm water. This acts as a soothing body pack.
