Causes of Skin Care Problems

The skin is the largest organ of the body. The principle function of the skin is to protect the body from foreign agents. Thus, it is the first line of guard against disease and infection. The skin also provides us protection against the sun.

However, skin care treatment is also necessary because of factors dissimilar to our aging skin. A number of conditions cause dry skin and therefore its treatment options will depend on the actual cause.

Following are the causes of dry skin:

  • Medication Side Effects
Nowadays each of us have become dependent on medication for health problems like high blood pressure, tension, headaches and even depression. The cause of the skin dryness may be due to some side effect of your medication for a completely unrelated condition. For this purpose, you always need to examine the potential skin irritation immediately after you start using any new medication. If you already have dry skin and cannot memorize whether or not it was a problem before starting your medication you may need to check with your physician and discuss an alternative medication in order to rule out side effects as the cause of your dry skin.

  • Poor Nutrition
Poor nutrition causes skin care problems. Our bodies need a well balanced diet of nutrients in order to keep everything functioning properly particularly the skin. Vegetarians and vegans often have dry skin issues because they do not consume enough animal fats in their diet. If you lack a vitamin B12 then this will cause your oil glands (sebaceous glands) to function improperly normally leading to acne.

Any effort to address a skin care issue, whether it is oily, dry or even itchy skin should begin with a close look at diet. Dermatologists can best evaluate potential diet-related skin care problems and suggest corrective measures to naturally renovate skin strength.

However, here are some food items, which should be avoided in order to keep your skin as healthy as possible:

    • fried foods (chicken, French fries)
    • processed sugars
    • caffeine
    • coffee
    • tea
    • soft drinks
    • high fat dairy products like milk or cheese (consuming low fat varieties of milk and cheese may not be great but they are better for your skin)

Water is the best skin care treatment which helps to improve your skin. Water naturally flushes out the toxins from your body. Therefore more quantity of water you drink more pure your body will be. Drinking lot of water is especially good for people with acne problems. It helps reduce the beginning of wrinkles.

  • Skin care problems due to sebaceous gland
If you have ever suffered with an acne problem then you must be possibly familiar with sebaceous glands. As the skin needs to be lubricated, it is covered with oil secreting glands known as sebaceous glands. If these glands are clogged with dirt then bacteria begins to grow inside which leads to form a pimple. However, sebaceous glands can either become clogged to result in a dry skin or they can produce too much of oil and cause oily skin. Most often, the skin problems due to sebaceous glands are due to poor diet and can usually be treated easily.

  • Skin Care Problems Due to Diabetes
It is a fact that even diabetes can be the reason for your skin care problems. A person suffering with diabetes has trouble in regulating the blood sugar levels. When there is an excess blood sugar in the body, then this extra sugar must be absorbed. To do this the body uses a lot more of water than normal and that can lead to dry skin.
