Before you select skin care products, it is very important to know your skin type so that you can select skin care products, which suit you. Find out your skin type whether it is normal skin, dry skin, dehydrated skin, oily skin, mature skin or sensitive skin? Once you have selected the skin type, look out for the following facial skin care products.

Types of facial skin care products

  • Facial Cleanser
    Cleansers help to remove the impurities from the skin making it clean and clear. Some cleansers are gentle enough to be used on the eye area but if you wear waterproof mascara, you will require a specific eye makeup remover.
  • Toning Lotion
    This lotion helps to remove traces of cleanser. It rejuvenates the skin and has a temporary tightening effect upon the pores. Refreshes the skin and helps to restore the skin's PH.
  • Moisturizer
    These are often described as day creams or hydrating lotions. They nourish the skin to leave it soft and smooth. Oil and water emulsions attract water to the skin and prevent moisture loss by evaporation. After cleansing and toning the next step is to apply moisturizer to the skin. Some moisturizing creams and lotions contain SPF and help protect the skin against environmental damage. Moisturizers not only hydrate and condition the skin but they also provide an excellent base for makeup application.
  • Eye Creams
    These are specially designed to moisturize and guard the delicate skin around the eye. They often contain collagen, oils and vitamins and some contain light diffusing particles, which help to draw attention away from dark circles beneath the eyes.
  • Neck Creams
    Neck moisturizing and firming creams are more hydrating than ordinary moisturizers. The extra benefits of collagen and elastin are they are believed to help prevent sagging and ageing thus maintaining a youthful appearance.
  • Exfoliation
    Exfoliating products are creams or gels that contain small particles, which smoothly scrub the skin to eliminate dead skin from the surface revealing fresh new skin beneath. They help to improve and prevent breakouts and give a healthy glow to previously tired looking complexions. Exfoliators are a good way to even out a vanishing tan.
  • Face Masks
    There are a variety of different formulations of face mask available that execute different actions. Facial masks are a relaxing and beneficial part of a skin care routine. They enhance the circulation and improve the overall color of the skin.
  • Cleansing mask
    A deep cleansing mask eliminates traces of trapped dirt, debris and oil. They are gently exfoliating. Dry flaky areas of skin are restored with soft smooth skin.
  • Toning and refining masks
    It relieves tired skin. Skin is refreshed and revitalized and pores appear smaller leaving a more refined complexion.
  • Nourishing and hydrating masks
    This mask includes soothing moisturizing ingredients, which hydrate the skin making it soft and smooth. They also relieve tired looking skin.
  • Sunscreens and sun blocks
    A facial sunscreen is necessary through out the year. Choose one with an SPF of at least 15. The suns rays penetrate the atmosphere and cause damaging effects upon the skin, which accumulate slowly resulting in pigmentation and premature ageing. In more severe circumstances, this can lead to sunburn and permanent scarring.
