Tips to Avoid Sunburn

Sunburn is caused due to the prolonged exposure to the harmful rays of the sun. Excessive sunrays are harmful for the skin as they damage the skin. The main causes of sunburn are over exposure to sun and ultraviolet light. It can cause early aging signs on face, and may lead to skin cancer. The symptoms of sunburns are blistered, red and dry skin. You also feel pain and irritation. Severe sunburn can cause pigmentation, inflammation, puffiness and skin breaking.

  • Practice daily skin care cleansing using natural face wash or mild soaps. Do not use harsh soaps as they may make your skin dead and dry.
  • Use natural sun protective cream such as sunscreens and sunblocks whenever you go out in sun.
  • Wear a good pair of sunglasses and use umbrellas when you go out in the sun.
  • Wear a wide brimmed hat, as it can protect your face and scalp from the suns harmful rays.
  • Wear lightweight, loose fitting clothing and keep as much of your skin covered as possible when you are in the sun.
  • Make an effort to spend your time outdoors early in the morning or later in the evening.
  • Too much of outing and swimming can cause sunburn. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid excess sun exposure.
  • Do not scrub your face excessively and make sure you use natural soaps and lotion.
  • Do not apply milk cream or oily lotions to the affected area as it may lead much to skin pigmentation and cause damage to the skin.
  • Drink 10 -12 glasses of water on a daily basis as it keeps the skin which has sunburn moisturized. It also replenishes the fluids lost by sun exposure.
  • Avoid products that contain benzocaine and lidocaine. They may in fact cause more itching and inflammation by causing an allergic contact dermatitis.
  • Avoid chemical-based soaps and face wash for washing sunburn face as it causes inflammation and much damage to the skin.
  • Consume fresh fruits that have high water content such as watermelons, oranges, sweet limes and cantaloupes.

Above given tips to avoid sunburn are cost effective and helpful in the treatment of sunburn. Infants, overweight and aged people need to take good care and protection from sunburn.
